How To Jumpstart Your Car

Jumpstarting your car is actually not as difficult as it may sound. There are several reasons you may need to jump-start your car, such as letting it sit for a few weeks or another reason. If it’s for sure dead, here are some easy ways to jump-start your car within minutes, so you can get back on the road again.

Step-by-Step Instructions to Jumpstart a Car

Use jumper cables or portable power packs: The jumper cables are where you connect the cables from your car battery to another car’s battery. But if you want to boost your car without needing another vehicle around, you can use the portable power packs. They are extremely popular these days. Just make sure the power pack is fully charged, so you can use it to boost your car.

Connect the cables: Whether you are using jumper cables or the portable pack cables, you will need to make the connection on your battery. If using the jumper cables, make sure the other car is next to yours. Make sure that there is no dirt on the cables, as dirt or debris can affect it. Put the red (positive) clamp on the positive post of the battery and the black (negative) on the negative side. Don’t let the two touch each other, and remember to handle it with the tools.

Start your engine: Get into your vehicle and turn on your engine. If it doesn’t start or there is a clicking sound, there may be issues you’ll need to look into. If you have one, use a multimeter to test the battery’s voltage. After a successful start, let the car run for a while and remember to not let the clamps touch when removing it as it can be dangerous.

If there is a chance that your battery is dead, you will have to replace it. If you know which type your car uses and can install it yourself, that’s great! But if you need help with replacing your car battery, we invite you to bring your vehicle into J&S Automotive today!
